An Initiative for Massachusetts Smaller Cities

Boston Fed Role in the Working Cities Challenge

The Boston Fed believes that Massachusetts' smaller cities have important assets and great potential to drive regional economies. We view the Challenge as an opportunity to demonstrate excellence and change perceptions of these communities.

The Boston Fed is providing management and staff support for the Working Cities Challenge.

The Boston Fed is not a grant maker. Grant awards for the Working Cities Challenge are provided by our partners.

Additional debt or grant support may be provided through participating Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and local foundations.

Boston Community Capital, a nationally recognized CDFI, serves as the fiscal agent for the Working Cities Challenge. The competition was judged by a group of volunteer jury members with expertise across a range of issues and topics relevant to small cities. The jury did not include the Boston Fed.
