Estimates of B2B Internet sales are difficult to generate and should best be thought of as rough guides. Goldman Sachs uses tax data and collects additional information from its equity analysts. It also considers such factors as whether suppliers are fragmented, whether products are standardized or specifically configured, and the specific composition of costs. By its calculus, the industry with the largest share of B2B Internet sales is computer hardware, software, and data networking. It predicts that aerospace and defense, electronics, and chemicals will have the fastest-growing shares of industry sales.
