Expressions of Interest learn more

Expressions of Interest, or letters of intent, are required for all prospective applicant teams intending to participate in the Working Cities Challenge. Expressions of Interest help foster collaboration and communication among prospective teams.

Design Grant Applications learn more

Design Grants are generally in the range of $15,000-$20,000 and afford select cities' teams the opportunity to build their capacity and strengthen collaborative leadership as they develop their initiatives. Design grants are small, but the stakes are high: only design grantees may go on to compete for multi-year implementation awards.

Design Grants Awarded learn more

The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, in conjunction with our partners, announces a subset of Design Grant applicants as Design Grant winners. Those cities that do not receive Design Grants are ineligible for Implementation Grants. Winners are selected by an independent jury that does not include the Boston Fed.

Design Grant Phase learn more

Design Grant winners participate in a six-month design phase. All core team members are expected to attend sessions designed to help develop comprehensive, actionable implementation grant proposals.
