On February 16, 2017, the Boston Fed, Boston Private Industry Council, and Boston Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development jointly hosted a Youth Employment Policy Forum at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Dr. Mark Melnik of the UMass Donahue Institute presented research findings on Massachusetts trends in youth employment and Dr. Alicia Sasser Modestino of Northeastern University presented emerging research on the potential impacts of summer youth employment programs. Forum participants discussed recommendations to increase youth participation in the state’s labor force, enhance collaborations to increase early work experiences, and determine implications for public policy.
