Event Overview

On June 12, the Boston Fed hosted a plenary discussion and pitch contest for philanthropic partners and all 20 Working Cities. The "Funders Event" is part of the Boston Fed's multi-year commitment to the Working Cities Challenge, and serves to connect philanthropic organizations with the civic leadership infrastructure in the Working Cities.

A morning plenary session opened with a briefing from Boston Fed staff on the evolving themes of progress across the Working Cities. In attendance at the morning plenary was Boston President Eric Rosengren, alongside representatives from philanthropic partners including Bank of America, Move the World Foundation, Citizens Bank, Santander, The Boston Foundation, the Herman & Frieda L. Miller Foundation, and the United Way of Massachusetts Bay.

High-level delegations from eight Working Cities including mayors, city managers, and school superintendents attended an afternoon "pitch contest," in which city teams were afforded the opportunity to pitch their projects directly to individual funders in a roundtable format. Funders offered feedback and perspectives based on past philanthropic experience in smaller cities. Three winners of the pitch contest—Fitchburg, Chelsea, and Salem—were announced at a closing reception.
