Boston Fed announces 2 new members of the New England Public Policy Center advisory board
Members to advise regional research center on sharing work, informing policy
The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston announced Wednesday that Karen Emis-Williams and Brian Gottlob have joined the New England Public Policy Center advisory board.
Emis-Williams and Gottlob are both from New Hampshire. Both have expertise on economic data and state fiscal and housing policy.
The New England Public Policy Center, or NEPPC, was founded in 2005. As part of the Bank's Research department, it informs regional policymaking by producing and sharing evidence-based research and analysis on New England’s economic issues. Some of its recent work has focused on education, the workforce, and housing. Board members advise the center on emerging research and how to best share findings with policy leaders in their states and communities.
Boston Fed Vice President Jeffrey Thompson, who directs the center, said the board is excited to welcome Emis-Williams and Gottlob.
"Karen and Brian both have unique insights into important issues facing New Hampshire, and all of New England," he said. "I know their perspectives are going to be extremely valuable to the Bank and everyone on the board."
Details about the new board members follow:
Emis-Williams is the director of Concord Human Services for the city of Concord, where she’s worked since 2016. She oversees implementation of a state statute that requires the city to provide financial assistance to individuals and families who can’t meet their basic needs. She is also a member of the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute.
Emis-Williams previously worked as acting deputy manager at Nashua City Welfare for the city of Nashua. She began her career at Greater Nashua Mental Health. Emis-Williams holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Rivier University. She was born in New York City and raised in the Dominican Republic.
Gottlob is the director of the Concord-based New Hampshire Economic & Labor Market Information Bureau, which is part of the New Hampshire Employment Security office. The bureau’s mission is to develop and disseminate labor market information and measure labor market outcomes.
This information helps elected officials, private employers, educators, and the public make decisions that promote economic opportunity and the efficient use of state labor resources. The bureau provides the state with employment statistics, demographics, and economic and labor market information, including the unemployment rate.
Gottlob is also the principal of PolEcon Research, an economic research firm based in New Hampshire.
The advisory board, created in 2006, includes representatives from each New England state. View all 16 board members, and learn more about the New England Public Policy Center on bostonfed.org.
