Wealth allows families to make investments in homes, in education, and in business creation. But the widening racial wealth gap is a worrisome sign that millions of families in Boston and nationwide do not have enough in assets to offer better opportunities for future generations.

Join the Boston Fed's Regional , Community Outreach team for The Color of Wealth in Boston, a panel discussion that will include the presentation of new findings on wealth inequality in Boston based on the National Asset Scorecard for Communities of Color (NASCC) survey. NASCC provides detailed data from the Boston metropolitan statistical area (MSA) on assets and debts among subpopulations, according to race, ethnicity, and country of origin- granular detail otherwise unavailable in public datasets. Our analysis - focused on U.S. born blacks, Caribbean blacks, Cape Verdeans, Puerto Ricans, and Dominicans - shows that racial wealth disparities in the Boston metropolitan area are strikingly high.

Following a presentation of the findings from The Color of Wealth in Boston data analysis, our panelists will discuss major challenges faced by communities of color and the policy priorities that can tackle the wealth gap in greater Boston.
